History

Matteo Furlani is a fourth-generation winemaker who runs Cantina Furlani in the hills above Trento, continuing a Trentino farming tradition roughly 280 years old. He began making traditional-method sparkling wine from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in 2008, then moved toward the wild, minimal-intervention frizzante and pet-nat styles that define the house today.

Farming is biodynamic on tiny, high-altitude parcels (up to around 720 m) on the Vigolana plateau; the cool mountain air gives the wines their taut freshness. The sparkling wines are made by spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts and carry minimal added sulfur — ancestral-method frizzante and pet-nats rather than dosage-driven classics.

The range runs from the Antico Frizzante (Chardonnay-based) to rosato and rosso frizzante and various pet-nats, alongside traditional-method Trento-area sparklers. Furlani is one of the best-known names in Italian natural sparkling wine.
